Kinome shook his head. "It's okay." He whispered. "Don't worry about me... It's not your fault and there isn't anything you can do about it. You're sick and I can accept that. At least you don't hit me like my father sometimes does... or at least you haven't yet and you seem to be the same every day."

Adish blinked, giving Kinome an odd look. "Sick? What are you talking about? I feel fine."

"I know." Kinome whispered. "It's alright... forget about it." Kinome rolled over on the bed, finally resting his arm across his eyes facing the ceiling. He gave a wry smile, nervously running his fingers through his own hair.

Adish frowned and watched Kinome silently. He had no idea what Kinome was talking about. The dragonis wasn't sick at all! He sighed slightly and stood from the bed. "I'm going to go get your supper and bring it in here, okay? You need to eat something or you'll get sick."

"Please don't go." Kinome's hand flew out, grabbing Adish's wrist. "Please... I'm tired of being alone. I don't care if you are not normal and you only like me because you don’t know any better but please... stay... only for a little while. I'm not hungry... Really, I'm not. All the medication the doctor crammed down my throat had left me rather nauseous, you know."
Kinome didn’t know why but all of a sudden he didn’t want Adish to leave him alone. He didn’t even realise that his comment might be interpreted as rude by Adish not even remotely realising he had voiced his conviction that Adish was not exactly normal… that Adish may be mentally ill. He was tired of being alone and longed for some form off acceptance... maybe even love... even if it was the false love of a delusional mind. Kinome was desperate and lonely enough to accept it. He simply hadn’t realised just how desperate and lonely he had been until Adish had entered his life following him around like a love sick puppy.

Adish blinked down at Kinome. What does he mean 'you only like me because you don't know any better? I'd love him no matter what! he thought, though he didn't voice. He could feel Kinome's loneliness and longing for acceptance; Adish had felt those thing within himself as well. He smiled soflty and nodded, sitting on the edge of the bed. He took the Human's hand between both of his own and gently brought it to his lips, kissing the back of Kinome's hand softly. "Alright. If you need anything, though, just tell me."

"Thank you." Kinome whispered, allowing his eyes to drift closed, sleep threatening and finally claiming him into its depths...

Adish watched silently as Kinome fell asleep. The boy was just as beautiful, and much more peaceful, in his sleep. Adish gently kissed the Human's forehead, then his cheek, but didn't dare do more than that; he didn't want to wake him.
He knew just by looking at Kinome that the silver-haired Human was his mate. There was no other explanation for the way his heart sped up the way it did around him, or his violent urges to protect him. He had only wanted to protect Eade, but now he felt even more strongly about keeping Kinome safe. There was no other way to explain this new myriad of feelings.
Adish gently placed a hand on the sleeping Kinome's clothed stomach. He could image what it would be like to be back on Parinenai with him, with Kinome pregnant and happy. He supposed it would be nearly impossible to convince the Human of anything other than what he was used to; Adish certainly had his work cut out for him.

A while later, Kinome still fast asleep, a door banged against a wall signalling the return of Kinome's father. Kinome was up like a shot eyes wide and face pale in horrified realisation. He could hear his father slurring curses in the hallway and knew today wasn't going to be a good day. His father had been drinking. And that meant his father remembered the murder of his wife. He turned wide terrified eyes to face Adish who was still in his room and on his bed.
Jumping up he stumbled over to the door ignoring the pain that coursed though him at the abuse he was putting his leg through, a slight hiss the only acknowledgement thereof. Practically running, hands running against the walls to stop himself from falling Kinome rushed over to the entrance of his room, grabbing the key from inside, slipping out, slamming the door and locking it with shaky hands. He couldn’t have his father find Adish.
"What are you doing boy?" The gruff voice startled Kinome causing him to drop the key. Fortunately he had already managed to lock the door, body trembling in shock. Kinome turned terrified, deep silver eyes, tears barely restrained onto his father. "What are you hiding?" The man snarled, pushing Kinome aside, ignoring the low whimper of fear and pain and shaking the door before turning back to Kinome. "Did you kill another?" He demanded roughly, to which Kinome flinched, his whimpers now having little to do with physical pain and more to do with guilt.
"Tell me!" His father demanded, voice bordering on hysterical. "What have you done this time? Wasn’t letting your mother die, losing your mind, abandoning me, enough?!" When Kinome still didn't respond he moved forward, pausing when Kinome flinched from him. Suddenly he grabbed Kinome, holding him against the wall and snarling in his face. "Afraid are you? Afraid? Isn't that exactly what Ari felt when she died, when she was stabbed over and over again while all you did was watch? It should have been you... it should have been you, I tell you." Deep grief could be heard in his tone. The kind of grief that tore your heart apart to hear. Pain and sorrow too deep to even contemplate. The pain of a mind no longer sane. Pain of having lost that which was most precious to you, having lost everything worth living for... The grief that drove a man who had once loved his son with all his heart to blame him, abuse him and hate him instead. Pain that was no longer rational.
Kinome did not move. He just watched his father, eyes wide with pain and guilt and let his father do as he pleased. It was times like these that he wished his father would just kill him and have done with his punishment… have done with grief and insanity and maybe find some form of retribution for all he had suffered. Unable to gaze into the boys eyes any longer, the gaze pulling at some hidden part in him… a hidden part that demanded this was wrong, Kinome’s father drew his arm back, unable to resist one last violent shove into the wall before turning around and simply walking away, leaving Kinome to slide down the wall in pain and grief, who in turn ignored the distressed sounds he could hear coming from Adish who he had locked in his room.

Adish could only watch in confusion as Kinome jumped up and practically ran out of the room. When the dragonis realized what was happening, it was already too late; he heard the lock click and jumped from the bed, rushing towards the door.
He could hear Kinome's father yelling at the poor boy and seethed. How could anyone treat their own son like that? It's disgusting! Adish thought angrily. When he got out of the room, that man would pay for putting blame where it doesn't belong and for torturing Kinome like he was.
Adish banged on the door repeatedly, demanding to be released. If someone didn't let him out soon, he was going to break down the door himself and hunt the man down. The need to protect and comfort his mate was driving out the beast in him. He could feel it clawing at his insides, and, soon, he was going to let it free. No one hurt his Kinome, no matter who they were.

It seemed like forever before the loud banging noises Adish was making finally intruded upon Kinome’s mind. It was a miracle his father was ignoring them but then again… what his father did and did not register was always a gamble when he was in this state. Ever since his mother’s death and Kinome’s own return from hospital, his father’s behavior had been rather erratic and unpredictable.
Kinome dragged himself along the ground, slowly inching his way over the door until he was finally seated, leaning and panting, against the door. “Give me a minute.” He whispered, something in him knowing that Adish would hear. His hand ran across the floor desperately seeking the dropped key, tears of humiliation and guilt clouding his vision. His breath sped up in panic and frustration, his agitated state not granting him the patience he required in order to track down the wayward key. “Come one, come on, come oooooon….” He whispered desperately trying to keep control of his shaking body.
Just when he was about to give up and scream in despair, his heated skin came into contact with a small piece of cool metal. Snatching up the key, Kinome tool a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm himself. Knowing Adish was not going to wait much longer Kinome took a deep breath and dragged himself up, choking back a frustrated sob when he fell on his third attempt. Fortunately for him, his fourth attempt was met with more success. The key scratched in the lock and it took several more attempts before the tiny piece of metal slid into place. Leaning his forehead against the door Kinome took a few more breaths trying to yet again calm down and stop the violent shaking he could feel in his body. When that didn’t help much Kinome simply gave in and turned the key, releasing it and sliding down the doorframe when he was done, not really sure what to do next.

Adish felt as if he could feel Kinome's pain, and it was tearing him apart. He wanted to help his mate, but the door betweent them was a bit of an obstacle. After quite a bit of pounding and some shouting, he was starting to lose the feeling in his fists a bit. The sides of his hands were tingling and it was only about then that he noticed that he was damaging Kinome's door. He stopped pounding and sighed heavily, leaning against the door. He heard the muffled sounds of someone moving around just outside the door and waited impatiently for something to happen that would give him a clue as to what was going on.
Finally, he heard the lock click and blinked. He tried the knob and opened it when he saw that it was, indeed, unlocked. The first thing he noticed was Kinome slipping to the floor and that the boy's father was nowhere in sight. Adish dropped to the floor and pulled Kinome into his arms, hugging him tightly.
"Are you alright?" he demanded, "He didn't hurt or make anything worse, did he?" He gently nuzzled Kinome's soft, silver hair and kissed the boy's temple.

Kinome allowed Adish to pull him into his arms, to weary and hurt to protest. He dropped his head, allowing into lean against Adish's chest, savouring the care he knew he did not deserve and trying to ignore the dull throbbing in his leg and the dull aches elsewhere. Kinome sighed and closed his eyes, aiming fro the oblivion sleep usually granted him.

Adish looked down at Kinome with worry. He sighed softly but stayed still as he sat on the ground. He didn't know what else to say; Kinome hadn't answered him and it didn't look like he was going to get anything out of the boy now. The red-head watched quietly as the Human drifted into unconscienceness. Once Kinome was asleep, the dragonis gently slipped a leg under the other's knees, keeping the other around his back, and carefully lifted the teen. He carried Kinome into his room and gingerly placed the boy on the bed. He pulled the blankets over the Human's sleeping frame and stood next the bed. He wasn't sure what to do now. He was torn between going and attacking Kinome's assailant and staying to make sure that Kinome would be alright.

Kinome shifted, mumbling in his sleep, whimpering at the sudden loss of warmth when Adish released him onto the bed. He twisted unconsciously seeking the warmth once more and only succeeding in tangling himself further in the bedding whereupon he released a pained, frustrated whine.
