At the shriek, he reached out and clamped his free hand over Koi's mouth, glancing upward.
The dragon would be here soon - and he didn't want his uncle's crazy mate to find him.
A huge shadow passed overhead; it seemed like an eternity passed under that huge shadow, all of Tri's muscles completely tense, terrified, before the shadow finally passed, leaving them behind.
He forced himself to relax and let go of Koi's mouth, letting go of his wrist, also, and pulling away.

My tail, surprising me, powers me up to the surface where I gulp in air. I'm confused... I should of drown... All well, air... Sweet AIR. I wait for the other to come up so I can give him a talking to... right after I make sure to cough out all the water in my lungs that is.

He followed Koi back to the surface at a much more leisurely pace, looking as confused as Koi felt.
It wasn't like the other merboy was going to drown or anything...!
He reached up and touched his gills again, frowning to himself. Then he made eye contact, pointed at the gills on the side of his neck, and gave Koi a questioning expression.

He shook his head, then reached out and flicked Koi's hair back over his shoulder before placing his fingers, feather-light, over Koi's own gills. He couldn't think of any other way to bring this person's attention to what he was.
He would never hurt this person, never. Wouldn't hurt anyone without a good reason. Why was he so suspicious?

He nodded, lying down in the water, bringing his tail up. His dorsal fins stuck out of the water as he floated on his stomach, allowing Koi whatever time he needed to adjust to the reality of this situation.

Then came the question, and he gave Koi a strange look, eyebrow raised as far as it could go.
