The sudden downpour of rain had Nikita soaked within minutes. He shuddered with cold, but didn't care, remaining passive as he looked up at the night sky, happy the blaring sun had finally set. When he finally continued on down the street, he ignored the inhabitants of Zerca as they scurried for the cover of the their homes. Nikita didn't have a home.
It had been nearly a week since he'd stowed away on a transport off of Jeskara. He didn't care where he was going, just that he'd never have to see his family again. Nikita stopped the thought abruptly as he walked out of town and into the patch of woods he called his own.
As the halfling walked, he sang, his voice high and melodious.
It's the quiet night that breaks me. I cannot stand the sight of this familiar place. It's the quiet night that breaks me, like a dozen papercuts that only I can trace. All my books are lying useless now. All my maps will only show me how to lose my way.
Oh call my name. You know my name. And in that sound, everything will change. Tell me it won't always be this hard. I am nothing without you, but I don't know who you are...
Nikita's voice drifted off into the night, sounding as lost and lonely as he felt.

Kira was out for a midnight stroll, when it started to rain. He cursed, shifting and laying down under the limbs of a tree sitting out the rain. His ears twitched as he heard a beautiful voice, and curious, he followed it out into the rain.

Nikita's voice drifted off into a hum as he stopped beneath the oak tree he occupied. The trunk was huge and hollowed out, making the perfect hide away from the ran. The vampire halfling began to remove his wet clothing, laying them inside the tree. He crawled in next, starting a small fire to warm himself, having no idea that he was being stalked.

Kira watched the little male, surprised. Who was he? He approached the tree, growling a bit in greeting, but staying out of range of any weapons.

The Zercan's smell reached Nikita first and then the nois. He bolted up in fear, grabbing his bow and already notching an arrow at the growling cat. "Go away." He called in a shaky voice, rain running down his nude body. His long black hair was plastered to his skull, making him look vulnerable, but his flashing blue eyes said otherwise.

Kira sat down to show he meant no harm. He shifted, now crouching in human form. "What are you doing out here?" he called to the male. He was on his father's land, after all.

Nikita didn't lower his bow, even as the cat turned into a handsome male. "What business is it of yours?" He asked coldly, while he was silently praying that this male would leave him be.

'You're on my land." He said plainly, standing.

Nikita jerked back, shaking slightly. "I'm not." He contested, refusing to be beguiled by lies. However, he'd be leaving either way.

"Yes you are. My father, Kaleos Akahai owns this property and it's lands. You're on my land." Kira said, looking at the beauty. He frowned up at the rain. "Listen, it's cold and wet out here. Come back to my house and sleep and warm up and you can go in the morning. It's dangerous to be out like this." he said, looking back to the mysterious boy.

Nikita shook his head almost violently. "No. I can protect myself." He replied, stepping back ready to run though his bow was still raised defensively. He didn't trust this Zercan one little bit.

Skittish little thing, wasn't he? Kira looked at the male. "What tribe are you from?" he asked in Majikadai, noticing his accent? "I am Kira, child of Crat'ka--brother of the Oiye tribe."

Jerking in surprise, Nikita squinted suspiciously at the male. "I have no with allegiance with your tribe or any other." The halfling spat, embarrassment coloring his cheeks. Technically it was true. His father was from the Innidut tribe, but Nikita had been cast out the moment he was born.

"So you are a rogue?" Kira asked.

Nikita wrinkled his nose. "You ask too many questions Zercan." He replied. "But the answer is no. I am not a follower of the tribes." The halfling back up just a little bit more, putting distance between himself and the foreign male. "I answered your questions. You can go away now."
