“Hey boys,” came a voice from behind the boys. The boys all winced as Jeffery’s elder brother, Adrian, came around the corner. “It’s dinner time—“ Adrian stopped and looked around. “Where is Jeff? Wasn’t he with you?” “Uh—“ Rudy started. “About Jeffery, Adrian…” Sven began. “We haven’t seen him!” Thomas said, shaking his head. “He said he was going up to the castle to touch the knocker, but he hasn’t come back. The boys and I were just discussing if we should go after him cause it was some time ago—“

Hands on his hips, Adrian's eyes narrowed. Needless to say, he didn't believe one wit of what was being said to him. Jeffrey only did things when he was goaded into them. "Fine." Adrian merely said. "I'll be having a conversation with your parents when I get back." He added menacingly before he took off towards the castle.

They all flinched and shrunk, for Adrian was quite big. He was one of the strongest, sturdiest men in the village, and often had many of the village girls vying for their attentions. That being said, a punch from the older man would really hurt.
“We’re sorry, but he said something about proving himself to be a man,” Thomas said again, looking up at the tall man.
There was no telling what kind of vandals and hoodlums lived there now, and Jeffery could be in real danger.

"I see." Adrian groaned. "Just go home boys. I'll take care of it." And he'd give Jeffrey a stern talking to.

There was not a day that went by that Adrian did not think of the large castle that overlooked his small village. As a boy he’d often dreamt of going up there and finding the red haired beauty he’d seen one day during the annual Grand Parade at the closing of their Harvest Week celebration. Adrian could never forget the fragile, proud beauty he’d seen sitting on horseback in the royal party—though at the time, young Adrian had not known that he was gazing at the Prince.
However, not long after that, the castle fell silent. There was nothing from their beloved Prince after that time. Not long after, rumors of a vicious Beast that had overtaken the castle began to circulate throughout the village, and after some time, the people forgot all about their ruler.
The village no longer had the Harvest Week celebration, and the story of the Beast of the Castle had become just a story used to scare children.
But Adrian hadn’t forgotten. As he began to make his way towards the Beast’s castle, he recalled the pale beauty he’d seen so long ago, and a foolish thought entered his mind. Perhaps he could find out what really happened to the Prince? No, it was a foolish thought. His main concern was to make sure his baby brother was safe—and then kill him for coming up here alone.
It took Adrian some time to reach the Beast’s castle, as night had begun to fall. Stumbling through thorny undergrowth and treacherous branches in the shoddy moonlight, Adrian soldiered on.
By the time he’d arrived at the monster’s home, it was pitch black. Adrian could scarcely see his hand in front of his face, but he could see the dark steps of the castle ahead of him. Adjusting his satchel, and placing a hand on his pickax, he made his way for the great doors of the once opulent castle.
Stepping up on the platform, he approached the door, and using the broadside of his axe, he pounded on the wooden gateway.
