The sound of boots hitting a cobblestone floor mingled into the sounds of Zercans coming to and from their ships in the decent sized port. A newcomer had arrived, trying to memorize the gate he parked in and figure out who to pay to keep his ship docked for as long as he would need. Normally anyone docking would mingle into the crowds of Zercans with no problem, but for some reason this particular visitor had a way of sticking out. Perhaps it was the long Jaguar tail that followed behind him, or maybe the Earth-Regency styled military uniform he wore so well. And that hat. Did they make those anymore? Then again, he was probably no more unusual than a any visitor from Parinenai.
"I can help you over here with the docking fee, sir," an employee waved the visitor over.
The motion caught his eye, but the words were half lost. "I'm sorry, what was that?" He asked politely. Not only did the man have a feline tail, but he had Jaguar ears that he still--due to an old habit--hid under a bandanna and hat. Good for keeping them out of view, not so great for his hearing. "Oh, the fee, thank you." He slipped out a wallet, hoping he wouldn't have to go through any annoying currency changes just yet. Thank the fates he had cleaned out his accounts on his old home planet before he fled.
A beautiful signature graced the final paperwork with a fountain pen: Marcus Ferrell. With that done the young man's voice went from polite, to stern and authoritative. "I have baggage that needs to be carried to my hotel, see that it gets there."
Leaving the poor employee to complete that task one way or another, Marcus left the station and stopped outside to gaze upon Zerca. The air smelled fresh and full of plant life to his delight. It stirred him in a way he would never soon forget. This was to be his new home. Now how the heck did he get to his hotel? He was praying for a train, but...did they have those here? Train rides were always the most relaxing for him because he could sit back and enjoy the sights while listening to the steady sound of the wheels following the tracks. At the present moment it would be a god-send on his nerves. Just looking around at these Zercans, these cat people he had read so much about, he was beginning to feel more and more uneasy.
They looked perfectly human. Okay, so their eyes were like his own, but they didn't show any signs of cat-like ears, a tail, or even patterned skin. Maybe he should have hid his tail after all.
