[Tri/Koi]
I really shouldn't of listened to those half insane people. I mean. They said they were my grandparents and then they dropped me into the ocean! What. the. Hell? It didn't help that when I landed I thought I was going to drown. Nope. Instead here I am, on my back, staring at the sky. What really annoys me isn't that I was dropped in here. No...
What really bugs me is.
Flop. Slash.
Looking over my chest I see a red and white tail kicking.
That.
That is what's bugging me.
Suddenly...? I'm a fricken fish.
This is NOT cool.
Not at all...
Why the hell did things have to turn out like this...?
Why?

Sometimes, it was easier just to close his eyes and let his tail swim for him. No muss, no fuss, just the water and no painful memories. Every so often, he would surface and there would be the beach calling for him, and he would remember why it wasn't an option anymore, why it would never be an option again. Even for a merman, being able to go on land in a form with legs was part of him, but it was a part that had been denied to the person once known as Jordan.
So he let himself coast, he let his tail and the current take him where they would. He almost, almost, lost track of the days as he hunted and lived almost like an animal.
But today....
His world had been disturbed, his peaceful, quiet world away from the society of either of his peoples. A lot of screaming, a lot of swearing, splashing and flopping, and the vibrations of a person struggling against the water. He'd gone towards it, worried that some unwary visitor had begun drowning, only to see the other boy's transformation and realize with relief that it was another merman like himself, though one who didn't look much like a pureblooded merman... and one who didn't seem to be able to swim very well.
He watched, curiously, as the boy seemed to lose it when he recognized his tail, through the anger, until finally the numbness settled and he floated gently across the ocean's surface. Tri - because that was what he'd decided to call himself, now - could empathize with him. Whatever the situation (and curiosity was simply eating at him), this boy had been through a life-altering event, a shock greater than his mind could bear.
Finally, the curiosity itself was more than the mute merboy could bear, and with a flick of his tail he breached the surface, lazily treading water.
What are you doing here...?
He opened his mouth to ask, but no sound came out, and he mentally cursed the curse that held him silent.

If only glaring at this damn thing would make it go away. But then again... maybe this is what saved me?
Sighing I close my eyes and just drift...
Until I hear water break and I open my eyes. My head knocks into something and I shove myself away. Confused, scared... What if its a shark?! I mean, don't they eat people?
My tail, gah I hate thinking this, kicks me back and away from the thing as I turn to--
Is that a boy?
"What the hell...?"
...is going on here...?

He kicked back, giving the other boy some space; he seemed panicked, frightened, so he raised his hands in the universal gesture of 'whoah, hey, I'm unarmed' and waited, tilting his head to the side to get a better look at this person. He was exotic-looking - dark skin, darker hair, dark eyes, very handsome, with his fish half covered in beautiful white scales and frilled fins. Tri allowed himself to take a moment in admiration before he focused back on the situation.
If only he had something to write with, so he could communicate....

Okay.
Okay!
....
So a strange boy pops up out of the water. Tries to show me he's no harm...
Wait...
"Uh, do you live near by here?"

He nodded, then pointed at this other boy and tilted his head, trying to make a 'questioning' face.
What about you?
He repressed a sigh - it would be so much easier if he'd inherited his bearer's talent for speaking with others mind-to-mind. Telepathy would be so very useful in this situation, but he'd never had it - he guessed he just had too much Wizard in him for that.

I frown before shaking my head.
"No. I'm not... I'm from the desert."
Then I sigh. This guy seems to be playing charades with me... wait... can he...?
"Are you, like... mute or something?"

He nodded.
The desert... it must have been torture. No water, anywhere around him? A normal Merman would've gone crazy by now, would've lost their mind. Potentially even committed suicide. This person was probably some sort of half-breed, but...
He hoped his sadness came across through his expression. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again - no matter how hard he tried, he wouldn't be able to get any sound out. He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, a nervous gesture he'd always had - it also had the side effect of revealing the gills that stood out on his neck as he pushed his wet hair aside.
He gave a helpless shrug.

Another sigh.
"Alright... So you are... Got it," I shake my head. "So... Are you're, uh... wait... how old are you anyways?"

Numbers, how did he represent.... he frowned.
It took him a few moments for him to figure something out. Then he held up his hands, all ten fingers, then closed them, showed seven fingers. Seventeen. He was seventeen years old.
Hopefully this new person would get that. It was hard to communicate without words.
