The day began much like any other for Christopher, he awoke at the same time everyday, just as the sun rose, to get a start on his daily tasks. The stuff he was assigned to do, and was expected, or else he risked being punished. Being who he was, he wasn't above punishment, but the stepson of the Dr. certainly was. Sometimes he envied the other male, but then he considered his life wasn't that bad, and then reconsidered it.
He was lucky, in comparison to the slaves about to work out in the field, if they weren't already. His schedule after waking up was the same, he got up and went out in the hall, fortunately waking before the Dr's step son. The man cared more about that fellow then he did him, but then why would he expect anything differently. After getting up, using the facilities and all, he was heading off to start his daily chores. He needed to sweep up, basic cleaning was something he was suppose to do, and when everyone woke up he was to make up the beds, and assist where he could.
Cleaning was what he was suppose to do, but Christopher tended to do things differently. One which included him taking up a book he sort of borrowed, then he went outside, the sun was just rising, so it wasn't too bright, and it wasn't too hot either. There was a special spot he went to outside of the house, where he settled and leaned back against the large house he got to live in. Off in the distance he could see the plantation, but it was a long ways walk to it. He was sort of glad, not that he had something against the people that worked out there, he just didn't like facing having to come face to face, for obvious reasons.
It was because he was the way he looked he received hateful stares from those less fortunate then himself. That's what he hated, but he didn't feel he fit in around the house either. His thoughts always wandered to that, but right now he settled himself to lean against the wall and read the book he had taken up. Today, he hoped he'd have no troubles, but he felt he wouldn't be so lucky.

His feet hit the pavement at a blinding speed and he turns the corner just as fast. His mother had just exploded on him again, his little sister Suki clings to him frightfully. Not too far a head is a long set of white steps leading to a place of prayer, a place human visitors often went. He drags his younger sibling up quickly, but her fingers slips from his.
Whirling around he begins to scream, "Suki!" As a bolt of lightning flies at him and his sister watches her brother disappear. The last thing they both see of each other are their scared faces. "SUKI!"
...
When he awakes Shy is on the same set of steps, except not as smooth. Groaning he sits up to realize he is surrounded by trees, a dirt road, and the stairs have given him some serious splinters. Now standing he glances around then looks up, "Holy..." He can tell from each snapped, half hanging branch where he had fallen. His blue-gray hues take in the area again... "Where am I?"

Christopher was making some progress with the book he was reading. He was having trouble with some words, nothing out of the norm, he just wished he could do more on his own. He received little assistance, but it wasn't enough, and it wasn't really allowed. The thought of getting someone in trouble for his own means wasn't something he found himself alright with. If there was one thing Christopher wouldn't do is give up, he'd figure this out somehow, even only partially.
It was sometime while his head was in a book that he heard a voice that made him jump. Frankly, any voice would make him jump. He wasn't suppose to be doing something to get him in trouble, if only because of the consequences. "Hello," he called out hesitantly, placing the book he had in a nearby bush, he promised to come back to it later. He moved to the front of the house, where the front porch was with some caution.

A call of "Hello" reaches the confused male and he looks around. Shortly his eyes land on a tanned male with braided hair. He tilts his head, "Um... Hi?"

Christopher's eyes widened at the site of the light colored male he didn't recognize. He had to wonder if the Dr. had been expecting company. Had he? "I'm sorry sir, the Dr. isn't awake yet, but if there's anything I can do to help you?" He inquired, his head down and he moved to approach the new male, keeping a set distance away. Couldn't have him thinking he thought highly of himself.

Doctor? Where am I? "Um... Could you tell me where I am sir?" He watches the other wishing he could see the other's expression better so he judge what he is thinking.

Christopher was starting to think the man here was lost, but how did he get here? They were a ways away from town, but it did look like the male here had been running, "Your on the Callaway Plantation sir, in Washington, Georgia." He didn't understand why anyone would ask what they should already know. "You alright, sir?" he asked the question, daring to look up with his chocolate brown hues, aiming to spot any sort of head injuries and the like. His expression showed he was apprehensive, nervous, and worried about possibly doing something wrong.

Earth, his subconscious supplies before he can look too confused. "Oh," He nods and smiles at Chris. "Thank you very much, and no need for formalities."
He walks closer and holds out his left hand, "My name's Shylo. Shylo LeBeau. And your's kind sir?"

Christopher was stunned at the way the other male spoke to him. Shylo, that sounded like a nice name to him, but he didn't really have the write to say that out loud. Most people barely tolerated speaking to him, no matter how light his skin was in comparison to others like him.
"Um..." he stared at the hand, clearly hesitant to act, but eventually he raised his hand and took Shylo's. "It's Christopher Merehews, but if you want you can call me Chris." It seemed the man was nice, but usually nice people ended up wanting something.
"Is there anything I can help you with sir, I apologize, I'm only use to addressing people in such a way." For a reason, some liked to punish him for the silliest reasons. Well, it seemed silly or foolish to him.

"Well," Shy frowns. "I seem a little lost at the moment." He looks at Chris with a slightly deeper frown now though.
"Hmm... Weird," He shakes his head and takes his hand back. "I've never been anywhere near here before... Can I speak to the head of the household please?" He had jerked his head in the direction of the house behind him.
Then he panics a little, "Unless you're a traveler as well! I don't mean no offense I..." He drops his gaze. "Forgive my behavior, please."

That made sense now, that Shylo was a traveler, so he didn't know how things worked in these parts. "I'm sorry to hear that." He felt no one would want to be lost, unless they did it on purpose.
"Oh, the head of the household," Christopher frowned, looking off towards the large house they stood beside. "I can get the Dr." Here he thought the man didn't want to see him. Now he just hoped the Dr. was awake or he might get in trouble for waking him up.
"Oh, you really don't have to apologize to me," The man really amazed Christopher, he didn't know what to make of him. "I do reside here, fortunately." Or unfortunately, it all depended on how one saw things. "May I ask what you want the head of the household for?" He had to say something, or the Dr. would get mad with him, and he didn't want to be hurt for some guy he just met. It wasn't like he got any fierce beatings, but it wasn't pleasant, and he never wanted to push his luck.

Shylo's gaze is dark when he looks up, but quickly fills with false light, "If he's really a... On second thought do you have anything that can help with a third degree burn?" He looks hopeful. "My bear... Mother dropped hot wax on me and then later tripped and dumped water at a hundred and thirteen on the same spot." Then tried to brake every bone in my body, He adds silently.

Christopher frowned at the news of a burn. "Third degree?" He wasn't sure about the term, but it sounded awfully serious. "I know some stuff from the Dr. I can treat burns," he had to get the Dr.'s kit though, that was one option. "Um..." he was thinking of an herb that grew around here, one he read about that could help. "Please, allow me some time, I can make something as well." He could do that, it was safer for him, but then he would just have to resort to borrowing to help quicker. "There's something in the house I can get for you," he was moving up the stairs of the house, heading for the door. He honestly couldn't imagine someones mother being so cruel.

"Wait," Shylo takes his hand again. "No, no. I am fine... Just don't leave me out here." His eye wide, frightened.

Christopher frowned at the other male, hating the look he saw. He didn't understand why the man would be frightened. "Okay sir, I won't leave you out here, maybe you can come inside with me them" he offered without really asking, it was more like a suggestions, and he really didn't have to go with it, but he really wanted to treat those wounds.
"Hmm..." He was suddenly thoughtful on something. "I suppose some of the slaves here might have something to, but I don't see them wanting to share with you." It was just a thought, seeing what everyone here had been through.
