Would it be possible to have two mates? Does it work that way? Like... some one was a third, so they're missing 2/3 of themselves, so they would have to find two mates? And the other two are looking for two also.... Idk, I was just wondering if that could happen.

This is a very good question and one I haven't heard before but been contemplating. Though I do want to stress the whole 'two halves to the same whole' thing I would say in rare cases this is allowed. But let it be known that this is extremely rare and the character with two mates must treat each equally and not favor one over the other.
But for all intents and purposes I'd say yes, but only on rare occaisions.
