Family background:Ater was born on Jeskara to a pair of male parents. The 'father' figure was an upper-class Majikadai named Tjirin Kumori, and was somewhat of a reluctant mate to his other parent, a Jshiko named Malin. To Ater's knowledge, they don't really get along very well, but they had four children together nonetheless. Ater is the third child and the only boy, as well as the only child to never live up to his parents' expectations. After about sixteen years of being the black sheep, Ater stole a cruiser ship and flew to Earth, hoping he would fit in better there. He has been living on Earth for nine years, and he is still not sure whether or not his parents will try to kill him one day for stealing a ship. His sisters were all settled into arranged marriages with nice Jshiko ladies. He wishes them well.
Appearance (Hair, eyes, body type and clothing, etc.): Ater looks much like the 'mother' figure of his parents. He has dark hair, as close to black as hair can come, and white, white skin. He always thought his eyes were black, but it turned out that was just because of his over-dialated pupils from living on Jeskara, and after a few years on Earth he discovered they were actually blue. People often ask him if he's a vampire, and he tends to say no unless he absolutely despises the person in question. He generally wears a dark blue sundress over a black turtleneck, and a large, somewhat-gaudy amulet, and he is long-limbed and lean enough to have been mistaken for a young woman more than once. He is five foot nine, unless he is wearing high-heeled sandals, which can give him an extra two to four inches.
Personality: Ater owns a small fortune-telling booth in California, and he is quite weird. Although he smiles at absolutely everything, he rarely means it. He has a tendancy to lose control of his shape-shifting powers at random moments, and as a result is somewhat of a recluse outside of his fotune-telling hours. He never fights for any reason, because he is half terrified that he'll start acting like his father and kill everybody. He is very agreeable, but he almost never does anything anyone wants him to do, and he hates not being in control, even though his slender, nearly weak build makes this inevitable. The few people he tried to date immediately saw him in a submissive role, so he rarely goes on more than two dates with one person. Ater doesn't expect to ever find a mate, and that is half the reason he's on Earth. The idea of mating frightens him.
Other points of interest: As a shape-shifter, he has a lot of fun during the Halloween time period. He helps teenagers who are dressing like werewolves and vampires be more accurate, and this sometimes gets him in trouble with angry parents.
