Darius whimpered in his sleep against a nightmare that began to plague him. Even Sonny's humming couldn't stop the tears that suddenly came to the Fae's eyes.

Sonny noticed tears in his mates eyes and he slept and made his way to the bes wrapping his arms around Darius to try and comfort what ever nightmares plagued him. "Shh, it's alright, I'm here."

Darius woke up, arms going around his mate's neck as he cried. "Sonny, oh, Sonny." He pressed his face into the male's chest, whimpering. "Make them go away. Please. I hate it!" He wailed, shaking again terribly.

Sonny was unsure of who 'them' where. "Darius, Darius. I don't know who they are. Won't you tell me?"

Darius shook his head, no. "I won't." He whispered. "You'll hate me if I tell you and make me leave."

Sonny could feel his heart aching. He knew it had to be bad if Darius thought he'd hate him. "Please, Darius, tell me."

Darius railed against it, crying and trembling before nodding his head slowly. *W-when I was s-still with my mother, t-there was this man. I t-thought I loved him and t-that he felt the same way about me.* Darius stuttered, hiding his face. *H-he hurt me then...t-terrible things...and I....and I.* The small male was so frantic by this time the couldn't get the rest of the story out. He didn't kill his lover but he had maimed him such a way that children would be impossible.

Anger rose in Sonny, not at his mate, but the man that would dare to hurt his Darius, the man that had not been destined for him and yet took advantage of just a beautiful creature. He swore that man would regret everything if he ever met him. "What," he said in a soft voice, "what did you do?"

*It's not what I did but what he did...A-a-acid.* Darius whimpered. *My mother wasn't there and we f-fought...h-he made me swallow it. Gods it hurt! It hurt so badly!!* Darius keened, finally breaking down into shattering sobs. Seemed his reason for being afraid to love had just become clear.

Yes, he certaintly would sign that man's death sentence. How could he take away his mate's voice. He felt cheated to never be able to hear his mates true voice all because of a jerk of a man. Quickly, Sonny kissed away Darius' tears. That man had made it so hard for Darius to love Sonny! "I can not tell you to forget your past, but I can tell you to only look at me when your past starts to haunt you. Darius, my beautiful mate, look into these black eyes and know that when you want to cry I will kiss your tears away, when you are down I will sweep you off your feet, and when you find it hard to sleep I will sing you a lullaby because," he said and took a deep breath emphasizing his last words, "I LOVE YOU."

That made Darius cry harder as he hiccuped for breath. Something seemed to melt within the Fae as he pressed his mouth to his mate's in a desperate kiss. *I loved you the first moment I saw you!* He cried, finally telling, even as he felt horrible for admitting it. For having lied *I'm sorry Sonny, so, so, sorry. I was so frightened! I didn't know what to do. I thought you would be the same.* He ended in a devastated whisper, knowing that it wasn't true.

Sonny hugged his mate close to him, his heart light yet heavy at the same time. Darius loved him! He quickly brought Darius into a hungry kiss. But should he tell his mate about being pregnant or wait until tomorrow. "I thank you for telling me, but I could never hurt you. It would be like stabbing a a knife through my own chest to cause you harm. But for now, you must rest."

Darius gave into that kiss, letting Sonny take what he wanted. He nodded when the kiss was broken, all but sagging against the male. He was exhausted in more ways than one and practically passed out on top of his mate before anything else was said.

Sonny sighed and rubbed a thumb against his sleeping mates shouler. He would have to tell his mate what Riley had said if he was to protect his mate. He only wished that they could have met sooner so that he could have prevented such horrible things from happening, but destiny had it's purposes even if it had to be cruel to reach them.

Darius, thankfully, slept on through peacefully, no nightmares plaguing him with Sonny by his side. Gradually the fever slipped from his body and he sighed in his sleep, once again feeling cool and well.
